Odeceixe, cliffs, cliffs and more cliffs

20th November – 22nd November

Praia da Arrifana. Moments like this make me really appreciate how lucky I am to be able to travel to such incredible places.

Our next stop was Odeceixe, a pretty village perched on the hillside beside the flat, wide valley of the Odeceixe River.  As with most of the small villages and towns in this area, at this time of year it is quite sleepy, with only the locals going about their daily business.  Praia de Odeceixe, a big sandy beach at the mouth of the Odeceixe River lies about 4km west of the village.

Trail running along the cliffs south of Praia de Odeceixe. This has to be one of the most scenic runs I have ever done.. along the cliff-line looking out at views like this.

Odeceixe is a great base to head out to explore some of the coastline and beaches in this western region of the Algarve, so we did exactly that.  To the south of Odeceixe lies the town of Aljezur, and yet more incredible cliffs and beaches.

Praia da Amoreira. On the mouth of the Aljezur River this is a huge sandy beach with mounds of sand dunes.

The town of Aljezur. We climbed our way to the top of the hill on which the old Castle of Aljezur ruins stand.

Cliffs north of Arrifana, Portugal. It is really quite breathtaking how rugged and harsh this coastline is.

Having being bombarded with impressive view after impressive, I thought surely our last couple of nights on the Algarve coast couldn’t live up to the last few days.  But sure enough, there was even more..
