Ian gets a bit older in Madrid

We set out from Seville for Madrid, and our last couple of days hanging out with Tegan before she headed back to London. Once again, it was a beautiful drive (Well, for me, Ian may not agree as he was the one driving and contending with Spanish drivers).

When we set out from Seville we encountered some pretty heavy fog. It made for some lovely photos though, so I was happy.

After the fog cleared.. More of that wonderful Spanish landscape. Just big skies and open space everywhere you looked.

We dropped off our car at the airport, found our apartment in Malasana for the next few days and got to exploring this big city. Whilst it may not have the huge list of touristy sites like some other European capitals, the city itself had plenty to offer.

Perhaps the most important was an emerging craft beer scene. Something that Ian was excited about, and given his birthday happened to coincide with our visit, it meant we definitely acquainted ourselves with a few beers. Having spent all year travelling in Europe and UK, we were also desperate for some good Ol Thai food (a much rarer and more costly experience in this part of the world). So, I found the best Thai I could in Madrid and that’s where we went to celebrate Ian’s 31st.

Fabrica Maravillas, Madrid. This brew pub was the first to open in Madrid. The beers were rather delicious, and the bar itself was pretty cool.

It wouldn't have been a trip to Madrid without taking the birthday boy on a paddle on the Estanque del Retiro (the small lake in the Retiro park).

We also managed to see a few things other than just bars…

Well, it was now back to just Ian and I.. So we hired another car and decided to venture further north..
