16th August – 18th August
Having spent the last couple of weeks in inland cities, I was looking forward to getting some coastal air again. So we made our way from Mostar to Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik has a beautiful old town area, and is one of the best preserved walled towns around. But it is incredibly packed with tourists (thanks Game of Thrones). So it was nice to be staying a little out of the central old town area, with an old Croatian couple who spoke pretty much no English. But we kinda got the gist of what they meant most of the time, and I hope the same went for them!? It was also kinda nice when the first afternoon we were there it rained.. Not only did it mean virtually everyone left the old town and we could enjoy it somewhat to ourselves, it was also a spectacular sight to see the steep stair alleys becoming rivers of water gushing through the town. I found something very enjoyable about the experience, and the view over the old town under the dramatic sky was pretty cool.
On our next day we had some sunshine, so explored the city a little more and hiked our way up the hill behind old town. The view over the town and along the coastline was worth it.
